Summer is right around the corner and I can’t lie that my body image gremlins are starting to pop off. At the same time, I know that those negative body image thoughts don’t serve me. So, I’m sharing 3 tips for how to get the perfect summer body without giving into the diet-culture bs. Feel free to skip around to what you need!
Focus on What Feels Good Vs. What Doesn’t
My Number 1 Coping Skill for Body Image Freebie
10 Principles of Intuitive Eating
The first tip is to shift your focus from achieving a specific body size to prioritizing what feels good for you. Summer is a great time to engage in activities that help you feel good physically and mentally. Whether it’s swimming, hiking, dancing, or practicing yoga on the beach, find activities that bring you joy and make you feel strong and energized. For me, you’re going to see me hitting the trails in good ole’ Indiana state parks, kayaking, doggy paddling (ya girl cannot swim, ha!) in my local pool or on my boogie board in Lake Michigan.
Remember, bodies comes in all shapes and sizes. Instead of obsessing over numbers on a scale or comparing yourself to unrealistic ideals, celebrate what your body can do and how it makes you feel. And when those body gremlin voices start to get louder, hold space for that feeling – whether its grief, sadness, frustration or anxiety.
This summer, practice self-compassion by being kind to yourself. Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with radical acceptance and radical grief.
Radical acceptance means embracing yourself exactly as you are, with a big dose of kindness and understanding when honoring challenging thoughts and emotions.
Whenever you catch yourself thinking negatively about your body, pause and ask yourself: Would I say this to a friend? Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to someone you care about. Remember, you are worthy of love and respect exactly as you are.
I can’t even tell you what is trending right now in the diet culture world, but what I can say is – it feels so damn good to be on the other side of that world. This is your exclusive invitation to ditch the diet culture bs and join my unapologetic healing community, here.
And, if you are unfamiliar with intuitive eating, it’s THE tried and true principles that I use each and every day. Check out the 10 principles below and feel free to save to your Pinterest later if ya want!
